Tagg Pet Tracker

Jan 19, 2012   //   by Paul   //   No Comments

Back in 2008 we posted about the Garmin Astro, which is a GPS collar and receiver mainly used in the hunting industry.  Over the years, the technology has improved, features have been added and the idea has been adapted for pet dogs!!  The Tagg Pet Tracker is a GPS system that your dog wears on their collar!  Not only does the device help locate your dog if they run away, but it has a lot more features as well.

The goal of the device is of course not only to locate a lost dog, but it’s to help prevent them from getting lost in the first place.  Using a computer or smartphone, you can check on the location of your dog at anytime, but you can also set up zones and be alerted if your dog is outside of the established zone.  So let’s say you leave your dog unattended in the yard while you are at work, if they should escape from the fence and leave the yard, you will automatically get a text or email.

The Tagg system comes in a variety of colors to match your dog’s personality, and attaches to most collars.  As far as GPS units go, the Tagg is relatively inexpensive.  The system retails for about $100 and includes one free month of monitoring, after that the monitoring will run about $8 a month. Check out the Tagg website for all of the details, images, and product videos.  Technology rocks!

Updated Dublin Dog Collars

Jul 11, 2011   //   by Paul   //   No Comments

Dublin Dog recently released their updated line of all style, no stink collars.  We were huge fans before, but we love them even more now!

All of the collars have received updated brushed satin hardware with rounded corners.  The material (still waterproof) in the new Dublin Dog collars has also been changed to a more pliable material that provides a more ergonomic fit and is also softer to the touch.  Although the material is now thinner then before, it’s stronger then ever and can handle 1200 lb pull strength (if your dog is that ill-behaved on a leash, a fancy collar should not be your top priority!).

In addition to updating the entire line of all style, no stink collars, Dublin Dog has also released it’s new Babylon collection.  The new collection has three awesome designs (including a nice pink one) and all sizes are currently in stock for online order, and we will be carrying the Babylon line (and the rest of the updated collars) at our Leander Dog Training facility too!!

When is it Time for a New Dog Collar?

Feb 21, 2011   //   by Paul   //   No Comments

One of the best ways to show off your dog’s personality is through his or her dog collar. In addition to the personalization factor, a collar in good condition will also help ensure your dog’s safety by holding the id tags and offering an anchor point for your leash.  So with the important role that our dog’s collars play, let’s make sure your dog isn’t due for a collar upgrade.

  • Do you have the right size? As your puppy gets older you are of course going to need a larger collar to accommodate their growing bodies.  At the same time, you want to make sure that the collar fits snug enough so that it will not slip over the dog’s head if he/she pulls in the right direction.  Be sure to also have a collar that is wide enough for the size of your dog, a collar that is too thin for a large dog may break if the dog does a lot of pulling.
  • Is the collar made out of the right material? Some synthetic nylon products are very slippery against each other, and they always loosen up on their own creating a fit that is way too loose.  Dog’s with sensitive skin can benefit from a collar that has a soft lining that sits comfortably against their skin, where a rough leather collar may irritate them more.
  • Are all the components in good condition? It’s important to do a periodic check of the buckle, quick release tabs, anchor points, and the material to make sure everything is in good condition.  With enough tension in your leash, a cracked buckle or partially chewed strap can easily break.
  • Does your dog’s collar stink? This is one of the most common reasons for needing a new collar.  With all of the swimming, rolling around on the ground, rough play with other dogs, and other fun stuff that dogs do everyday, their collars quickly stink.  Smell your dogs collar, does it stink?  If so, we strongly recommend checking out these collars, they don’t stink, hold bacteria, and never fade; they rock!
  • Does your dog’s collar fit your dog’s personality? This is one of the fun things that come with owning a dog, showing off!  Plain black or green are boring, there are so many other collars out there that can reflect your dog’s personality and lifestyle.  Do an internet search or visit your local pet shop to find a collar that you and your dog can be proud to show off!

World’s Most Expensive Dog Collar

Dec 2, 2010   //   by Paul   //   2 Comments

Are you still looking for a Christmas present for your dog?  If not a full blown present this year, you’re at least going to get your dog a stocking-stuffer, right?  Well in comes the world’s most expensive dog collar.

The Amour Amour Collar boasts over 1,600 hand-set diamonds that add up to to a total of 52-carats; and that’s not to mention the platinum and white gold components, along with the exotic crocodile leather band.  With something this elaborate and elegant you are assuming a ridiculous price tag too, right?  I don’t think the $3,200,000 price tag will disappoint!!

Alright, back to the real world, a $3.2 million dog collar is out of reach for most of us, but not to worry.  I Love Dogs Diamonds has something that is should fit even the tightest of budgets; their entry level dog collar comes in at only $150,000.

In addition to having some really cool tags, you can upload a photo of your dog wearing a tag and they will publish it to their site, and they have some pretty great videos as well.  In order to prove how durable their tags really are, they have videos of their tags getting smashed with a hammer, getting put into a blender, and even getting run over by a train.

If you have ever wanted a tag with your dog’s picture on it, a dog tag with your company logo, or any other design you can possibly imagine, Dog Tag Art is the place to go.  You can only get these tags on the Dog Tag Art website, so check them out!
