Take Your Dog to Work Day

Did you know that Friday, June 22, 2012 is Take Your Dog to Work Day? Sponsored by Pet Sitters International (PSI), Take Your Dog to Work Day, the annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption by encouraging their employers to support TYDTW Day. Employers are encouraged to open their workplace to employees’ four-legged friends on this one special day.
As the tradition has grown, many businesses allow employees to bring their dogs to work on TYDTWD, but several companies are going beyond the one day tradition and have made their workplaces dog-friendly on a year round basis. As more and more businesses allow dogs in the workplace, it’s up to us as responsible dog owners to manage our dogs properly and not abuse the privilege.
Hopefully we all have taught our dogs to lay down (and remain there) for an extended period of time, they come when called, they are non-reactive to environmental factors, and can be managed while still focusing on your job. If not, please consider finding a trainer in your area that offers dog training programs with a high curriculum that can help teach you and your dogs the skills necessary to handle an event like Take Your Dog To Work Day; it’ a lot more fun to have them with us all day!
